18 October 2011

Racing Queensland Limited (RQL) director Mr Bob Lette has been awarded a Harness Racing Australia (HRA) Distinguished National Service Award for his outstanding service and contributions to the Australian harness racing industry.

The Distinguished National Service Award recognises important achievement, substantive effort, enterprise, endeavour, creativity and professional excellence on a national basis over a long period of time.

Mr Lette is a former HRA executive member and former chairman of both the Albion Park Harness Racing Club (APHRC) and Harness Racing Queensland. His contribution nationally included roles as an accredited state representative of HRA and Inter Dominion Harness Racing Council from 2003 until 2010, including five years on the HRA executive as deputy chairman.

South Australia's Grant Goodall was also recognised for his achievements on the HRA executive and Harness Racing South Australia.

HRA chairman Mr Geoff Want said the executive and members were delighted to recognise Mr Lette and Mr Goodall for their lasting contribution to the national harness racing industry.

"These awards are a well-deserved acknowledgement by everyone in the industry for the exceptional effort and service of these two gentlemen," Mr Want said.

RQL chairman Mr Bob Bentley was buoyed by the recognition granted to his fellow director.

"Bob Lette is a well-deserving recipient of this award," said Mr Bentley. "His many years of contribution to harness and racing industries are to be applauded and Racing Queensland is proud to have him sit on our board."

APHRC chairman Mr Warwick Stansfield has worked alongside Mr Lette for many years and congratulated him on his achievement.

"The Albion Park Harness Racing Club greatly benefited from Mr Lette's time as chairman and this award is just recognition for this industry stalwart."
